Although I was sent a Birchbox earlier this month it turned out to be my May Birchbox. You can check out my review for my May Birchbox vs. my June Ipsy glam bag here. Hopefully next month my Birchbox arrives on time, so I can compare my July Ipsy glam bag against my July Birchbox. 🙂
Before I get into what’s in my Birchbox this month. I just want to give you guys a quick run down on what Birchbox is and how their point system works compared to Ipsy’s.
Birchbox is monthly beauty subscription box. Birchbox only costs $10 a month (just like Ipsy). You get 5 beauty/skincare samples in your monthly box. I have heard some people get full size products; however I have never received any full size products from Birchbox. Ipsy has sent me a few full sized products.
Both Ipsy and Birchbox have a point system.
For Ipsy every product you receive you have a chance to review that product on Ipsy’s site. For every product you review it’s 10 points. If you share your review to Facebook you get an additional 5 points. I share all my reviews on Facebook because it=20 extra points! A quick tip if you don’t want to be an annoying Facebook poster just set your ipsy posts to private, and you can always delete them later. They want take away your points for doing that. If you refer someone using your link you earn 250 points. With the points you earn you can redeem them for rewards. I had about 700 points and last month I finally redeemed 500 of my 700 points for a full size Boscia BB cream Bronze. I LOVE Boscia, and I’ve heard tons of great reviews about this particular product. I’m super stoked to try it out.
I think I like the Birchbox point system better though. For every product you receive in your monthly box you can earn 10 points if you review it on the Birchbox site. They do not give you extra points for sharing it to Facebook (there’s not even an option for that). For every person you refer using your link you earn 50 points. Now here’s my favorite part about their point system. Every 100 points it=$10 to spend in the Birchbox store. I currently have 215 points, or in other words $20 to spend. I like that Birchbox carries a wide variety of brands such as, Benefit Cosmetics, St. Tropez, Philosophy, Briogeo, Smashbox, etc…(a lot of brands that Ulta and Sephora carry). Hopefully one day I can visit the Birchbox store in NYC. 😀
Now onto my June Birchbox review.
Dr. Jart+ Dermaclear™ Micro Water (Full Size retails $32).
This is supposed to be like a face wash and makeup remover in one. This product is very similar to Lacome’s Bi-Facil makeup remover. I actually got to pick this product out. I received an email listing 5 different products, and I could either pick just one or be surprised. I chose this because I read excellent reviews on it. I was disappointed though. It’s not enough to remove my makeup. It took me 6 soaked cotton balls to get half of the makeup off of my face. It just felt so time consuming. It didn’t work very well either because I went to use a makeup remover wipe just to make sure I got all my makeup off, and there was still tons of lingering makeup I removed.
Temple Spa Good Hair Day Shampoo (Full size retails $14).
I was excited to try this until I actually tried it and just the smell of it made me want to gag! It smells like a wierd hotel shampoo. It just has a very off putting and distinct smell. I felt like it didn’t do anything miraculous to my hair either. It was just okay. I would NOT purchase this for the simple fact that I loathe the smell. Bae liked the shampoo, so Bae’s using it. He can have it!
Temple Spa In Good Condition Conditioner (Full size retails for $14).
Oddly enough I like the conditioner! It smells minty and fresh. It made my hair feel nice and soft, but it was nothing miraculous either. Eh, I’m not impressed.
Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel (Full size retails for $48).
Bae and I both tried this and liked it. I was kind of skeptical at first because a 3 minute peel? Really? I mean c’mon now. It takes about 20 seconds or so to actually start feeling this product working. It’s crazy. You’ll feel little balls of clumps coming off. You have to keep massaging your skin for a full 3 minutes, and then rinse very thoroughly. At first I was kind of frustrated because I wasn’t seeing a whole lot of “dead skin” coming off, but I noticed Bae had a lot that he was scrubbing off. So, that’s a good thing I take it I don’t have near as much dead skin as Bae does. 😀 Neither of us had any issues with this peel, and my skin felt great.
Marcelle Mini Waterproof Eyeliner
I received this in the shade Mulberry, which is a violet color. I like the formula and the staying power of it. This eyeliner is waterproof for sure! I After I took my photos and did a swatch, I took a shower and I scrubbed the hell out of it, but it did not come off. I had to use my makeup remover wipe to get it off. I’m disappointed in the color I got, though. I’m not a fan of purples. I wish I would have gotten the black or even the blue! I love blue eyeliner.
BONUS PRODUCT: Emi Jay Solid Hair Tie
Eh. A hair tie. Nothing special. I actually prefer elastic hair ties especially because I have really thick hair.
Well, the box it totes cute. I’m not paying 10 bucks for just a box though. The only product I really liked was the peel, but the sample I received was so small that I only got a couple uses out of it. 😮
I would give this months box a ★2.5 out of 5 stars.★
Hopefully next month’s box makes up for this month’s!
