This month my ipsy glam bag arrived on the 14; one day before my Birchbox arrived. I’m not too thrilled with my Birchbox right now. I don’t even think I can hold out for one more month. I’m thinking of seriously cancelling. If and when I do I will write a blog post containing a list of reasons for doing so. I’m actually keeping track of all the products I’ve received and whether or not I use them and if I think the subscription is worth it. And, so far I don’t think Birchbox is worth my $10. That’s 10 bucks I could use towards my Starbucks instead 😀
Let’s start off with reviewing Birchbox
100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream (Full size retails for $25)
I love the smell of this eye cream. Smells just like coffee which is not a surprise since it has caffeine in it. I like eye creams with caffeine in them because I find they give my eyes a great pick me up. When I wake up in the morning my eyes are a bit puffy and this eye cream helped reduce that puffiness. I don’t know if I would buy this product though. A frozen spoon works just as well to reduce my eye puffiness, so…..
POP Beauty POP Portfolio Eyeshadow Palette (Full size retails for $26)
Kind of disappointed in this product. I opened it and swatched the shadows and found their was a lot of fallout. I’m also not a fan of the purple color and the greys. I already have so many makeup palettes with greys in them, and I much prefer to use browns. I could never pull off a purple smokey eye.
Harvey Prince Hello – 50 ml (Full size retails for $55)
Meh. Not a fan of this perfume at all. Smells like a grandma’s garden of flowers. The smell is just way too over powering. In my Birchbox profile I checked that I did NOT want to receive perfume, so I’m not happy about receiving this.
Amrika Bombshell Blowout Spray (Full size retails for $24)
I like using this when my hair is damp and I have to blow dry it. It’s a blow out spray so you’re going to get the most use out of it if you use it that way. It adds a lot of texture and volume to my hair. I put a little extra in my roots because I hate my hair looking flat. The only thing I would say I don’t like is the smell.
Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel (Full size retails for $24)
I LOVE this! I actually own the full size product of this. I like my Anastasia brow wiz, but I have very dark and naturally thick eyebrows that sometime when I fill them in with a pencil they end up looking too harsh. This brow gel is perfect for adding just a little bit of color and filling in those little sparse areas.
If you’re looking for something similar, but without the high price tag I would recommend the Maybelline brow drama ($6.99 at Target). The applicator is slightly different, but the formula is very similar. I WOULD NOT recommend the L’Oreal Paris brow stylist. The applicator is the same only longer; however, the formula is super wet and icky. You get way to much product and it ends up being messy. That’s just my experience though.
I’m not very pleased with receiving this for two reasons: the sample size is very tiny and they gave me the color light/medium. The one I own I bought in medium/dark because I have dark hair and dark eyebrows, so there’s no way I could even use this!
Talk about a total disappointment.
Ipsy Glam Bag Review
Sample size 1 oz First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair® Cream (Full size 2 oz retails for $12.00)
This is a really good cream if you have dry skin or suffer from eczema (like me). I use this on my most dry areas my elbows and knees. I also use it on my daughter Neveah because she has really dry skin. It’s not sticky (like Aquaphor) or heavy feeling. I would say overall this cream provides a lot of hydration, and I like it.
Full size City Color Cosmetics City Chic Lipstick (Retails for $4.99)
This is a nice buttery lipstick; however, I hate the shade I received. It’s an ugly shade of pink (mauve rose color)that does not look good on my skin tone.
Full size Elizabeth Mott Queen of the Fill Tinted Brow Gel (Retails for $20)
This is very similar to Benefit’s Gimme Brow gel. The formula is slightly more wet though. I’m just happy that they sent me the right shade medium/dark (unlike Birchbox). I like this gel, but not as much as Benefit’s. I would say Benefit’s is better and it only cost $4 more.
Sample size 1 oz Octavio Molina Hair Aceite de Argan (Full size 4 oz retails for $29.50)
Another argan oil! I love argan oils! I received one last month from ipsy too. I was hoping I would like this, but unfortunately I don’t. It’s not horrible. I just find that it makes my hair oily even if I use the tiniest amount.
NYX Cosmetics ipsy Eye Shadow Trio
This is an exclusive palette designed by NYX just for us ipsy subscribers!
I personally love it. I have tons of NYX eyeshadow palettes and single shadows; they’re highly pigmented, affordable, and easy to blend eyeshadows. This palette is perfect for achieving that brown smokey eye look.
Birchbox a ★2 out of 5 stars.★
I’m not too happy with my Birchbox right now. Everything I’ve received has been meh, and the sample sizes are kind of small. To each their own. I know some people love their Birchbox, but me personally I haven’t been to thrilled. I actually cancelled my subscription today (I’ll write a separate post on that later).
Ipsy a ★4 out of 5 stars.★
This month wasn’t my favorite, but it wasn’t too bad. I always feel like I get my $10 worth out of ipsy.
